About This Project

My experimentations started in 2016 of my MFA program; I have been working with natural, earthy, and durable materials. They include metal, wood, rubber, leather, plaster, and paper. I narrowed my choices to timber native to Oregon for durability and beauty. Included is bronze, and steel depicts the golden adornments of Kumasi Ghana, passed from generations. Objects created with these materials can withstand everyday interaction, become better with age. Connotations of the natural and handmade are present in topologies of the two unique places I am uniting. Sculpting and building with these mediums involve heating, quenching, hammering, bending, and scouring. The outcome describes different stages of my experience from Ghana, my country of birth, and the United States of America, where I currently reside.
