My work is about my experiences with people, places, and moments. Through making, I document and explore social narratives that go beyond the obvious. I enjoy designing ideas from different cultures and conceptualizing, creating, and developing products using various mediums, including digital design, as well as materials such as wood, clay, and iron. Growing up in Ghana, I have always been influenced by African art for its intrinsic aesthetic value, as well as for its continued source of inspiration for my design work. Having created and developed products for Aid to Artisans America, Ghana, and Oregon-based Swahili Imports, I have also assisted with public relations and trade show booth designs in NY, CA, and NC from 2006 to 2010. I have participated in design and development workshops for appropriate technology in Honduras and Burkina Faso for small and cottage businesses. I am currently an employee of Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS)
He worked as a field coordinator at Aid to Artisans. A nongovernmental organization that supports local craft makers to design, develop, and market the wares to foreign markets. These products were available in Pier 1, TJ Marx, West Elm, and more. The methods employed were modern African designs for markets in the United States and Europe. He likes to frame his ideas by building bridges and making them across cultures. Teaching and learning is a mutual partnership that opens possibilities to new ideas and outcomes. He envisions an environment for creative minds that fosters an understanding of our community’s beauty and cross-cultural complexities. All are endowed with different gifts and talents to co-exist with one another,
He believes young minds can be nurtured through all-accepting and inclusivity. He mixes mediums to express ideas from different geographic locations to create something unique. He was raised in a multilingual and socio-economically disadvantaged environment; he relishes the need to create an inclusive learning environment for all.
